Why We Launched MyDensityMatters.org
. . . Because Getting the Breast Cancer Screening We Need Is Up to Us
#1 – The medical industry has known for decades that breast density masks cancers in women with dense breasts, leaving millions of women at risk. Yet very little real progress has been made.
In other words, there is a big problem with our current breast cancer screening standards. Women with dense breasts are at a higher risk of getting breast cancer, yet our ‘standard of care’ screening, mammography (including 3D), will find less than half of all cancers present in these women.
#2 – We can do better, but we aren’t.
Hail to the early pioneers that brought the breast density issue out into the open. We thank you. And with that said, there is still massive confusion, posturing, greed, bias, and difference of opinion that all contribute to the lack of real progress. We still don’t have the breast cancer screening that many women require to find their cancer earlier, when treatment is easier and cheaper, and less likely to advance to later stage.
#3 – If women want real change in breast cancer screening, then we will have to demand it, otherwise we are very unlikely to get it.
Unfortunate and true. Okay then, game on. If that’s what we have to do, then we will.
MyDensityMatters.org was created to empower women to know their breast density, then demand they get the breast cancer screening they deserve. To be relentless, to insist and persist, and thereby change the breast cancer screening landscape through the will of the collective US, the women who will be most positively impacted. All of our efforts and activities are aimed to doing just that.
